‘Substantive Archival Challenges’ is a play which observes an all-male guerrilla theatre troupe as they go about putting on their clandestine productions.
Collaboratively building this hysterical world of the performance, Middleton Maddocks and the performers consider surveillance, Stanislavsky, content creation, archetypes, and pagan folk plays. These elements create a playful opera wherein the Id is unleashed, analysed and reordered…
Middleton Maddocks is an artist working in various modalities, their practice is concerned with mapping; language—it’s failures and tricks—; nonsense making; theatre as a space & performance as a mode for living; autofiction; and personal symbolic histories. Middleton completed their BA at Goldsmiths, 2023 and were Open School East Associate in 2024.
During the last few weeks Middleton installed and rehearsed for a new expermintal play, which takes as its locus in a speculative group of guerrilla outsider artists who perform to doorbell cameras, to be staged on the 24th and 26th of April.
